Never You

I'm wondering why I can't love you.
Your name runs in circles in my mind
And it kills me to know that we could never work.
Even if we both wanted to, neither of us would speak up.
But that's if we both wanted to,
and I'm the only one here wanting to.
You are over there not taking one look back at me.
Or even thinking twice about me
And my heart dies a little more each day.
And today, it stops!

Today, I'm burying this hatchet,
Knowing us would never work.
I'm taking what is left of my heart and moving on.
I'm taking this sorry excuse of a heart
And showing it that there is someone who will love it;
Someone who will take it for what it is,
Take it for the breaks, the tares.
There is someone out there who will take this heart.
Who will take it forever and ever.
And that person will never be you.
